Jamie and Tiff are doing it, something we probably all dream of but just can’t quite pull the trigger. The couple and their three under 6 kids have been full time on the road for 2 years. There’s no sign of stopping anytime soon. But in the meantime Jamie takes up the story…

Our life of full time living on the road with kids began in 2018 but it all began with talk of a new way of life at the end of 2017. Tiff sat me down and explained just how much she was not coping with the way we were living. I was working full time and Tiff was at home with the kids and ultimately the monotony, loneliness and repetitive nature of stay at home parenting was getting on top of her. She was slipping into depression and was at a tipping point. The only life she could see for us was full time travel where we could all be together and make memories with new experiences and constant challenges. I couldn’t see how it could possibly work but once I thought about it more I completely agreed. I began to see that for all the work and effort we were putting into our current life we were not reaching any goals or making any progress. And what sealed the deal was that I could see I was missing out on raising my kids. Missing out on their childhood and these precious years. So the fire was lit and so began the start of how to make travelling work for us as a new life to start a fresh.

If you have a watch of our backstory video on our channel you will get to see all the different vehicles we have traveled in around Australia and then the Americas and Western Europe. Our current setup is a big leap from the old ford wagon we slept in the back of seeing some of Victoria more than 10 years ago! Travelling is definitely in our blood and we love the roving aspect of this life. We love experiencing new interesting places and being constantly in awe of our beautiful country.

Road Schooling…

Atlas, our eldest is already being road/life schooled as he is 6 and he is thriving in this way of life. Although, more families on the road for us to hang out with would be ideal! So school isn’t a reason for us to stop, our plan is more fluid than societal expectations based on children’s age. We have always said that we will continue to live and travel on the road full time until it is no longer enjoyable, which sounds simple and it is. We will live like this until we are no longer happy doing it, and at the moment we are loving it. Although it’s not all sunshine and roses, we do have three small children! But this life is better for us all rather than living back in the status quo.

Long term, Tiff is making noises that in 3 years, once Astra the youngest, is 5, she would love to head over to America again and make our way slowly down into Mexico and beyond. It’s always been in our dreams since coming home 10 years ago from there, and we don’t let our dreams slip by so I would imagine it will probably happen!
